Verdict: Karan Singh hails verdict; gagged, say NC, PDP netas | India News

NEW DELHI: Senior Congress leader and son of J&K’s erstwhile Maharaja Hari Singh, Karan Singh, welcomed the Supreme Court verdict and urged everyone to “accept the inevitable”.
Singh also urged PM Narendra Modi to restore statehood and suggested political parties in J&K go ahead with preparations for fighting the next elections and not unnecessarily “hit their heads against the wall”.
Netas claim storm brewing under calm.
National Conference vice-president Omar Abdullah put out a video of the gate to his Gupkar Road residence being locked from outside, claiming the administration was trying to prevent him from airing his views to the media, reports Saleem Pandit.
Like Omar, PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti said she and others were under house arrest. “This is a political war that has been going on for ages, and a lot of people have sacrificed their lives for this. We will not leave this; we have to come together and fight,” she declared.
LG Manoj Sinha denied that restrictions targeting any leader were clamped ahead of the verdict. J&K Police, too, clarified there was no directive to arrest or restrain anyone.
J&K People’s Conference chief Sajad Lone termed the verdict “disappointing”. He said justice had yet again “eluded” the people of J&K.
Democratic Progressive Azad Party president Ghulam Nabi Azad said J&K “won’t be happy with it (the court’s verdict), but we have to accept it”.
Separatist Hurriyat leader and cleric Mirwaiz Umar Farooq said the verdict was “sad but not entirely unexpected in the present circumstances”.
