PATNA: Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar on Friday held a high-level review meeting with state’s top officials in the wake of the sudden spike in the cases of Covid’s sub-variant JN.1 in other states and asked the health department officials to increase the number of RTPCR tests in Bihar.
Chairing the meeting at the Sankalp hall of the CM residence, Nitish further asked the officials to ensure the availability of medicines, equipment, beds, oxygen, human resources and other necessary items in the hospitals as per the standard operating procedures (SOP) specified for the covid-19.
He further asked the officials to make people alert and aware through social media and other mediums of propaganda so that they prefer to adopt covid resilient behaviour to prevent the spread of the disease.
“All people visiting hospitals should now wear masks,” said Nitish Kumar.
“However, people should not panic,” added the chief minister.
Earlier, the additional chief secretary (health) Pratyaya Amrit, through a presentation, informed the CM about the latest status of the JN.1 in the state.
Amrit told the CM that several cases of the new variant have been found in other states of the country.
“Two cases of new variant have been found in Bihar in those people who arrived from other states. The new variant is not so deadly. Both the patients have been kept in home isolation, and they are healthy,” he told the CM.
Deputy CM Tejashwi Prasad Yadav, who holds the portfolio of the health department, was present at the meeting.
