Madhya Pradesh’s new Chief Minister, Mohan Yadav on Wednesday prohibited the use of loudspeakers at religious places beyond permissible decibel levels, marking his first major order in office. Yadav has called for a ban on loudspeakers and DJs beyond a certain decibel level at all religious places. After seeking blessings at Mahakaleshwar Ujjain, Yadav signed the order upon his return to Bhopal.
The order cites the Supreme Court judgement of July 2005 that banned the use of loudspeakers and music systems between 10 pm to 6 am (except in cases of public emergencies) at public places, citing serious effects of noise pollution on the health of the people living in such areas.
