Three people were killed and another three were injured late on Saturday night after a dumper truck rammed into a dhaba in Uttar Pradesh’s Etawah near the Manikpur crossing.
District Magistrate of Etawah, Avnish Rai, told reporters that the injured have been sent to hospital for treatment and the bodies of the deceased have been recovered. The identities of the three people who died have not yet been established, he added.
Etawah Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Sanjay Kumar Verma told ANI news agency that the truck driver has been arrested and was found to be under the influence of alcohol.
Rai said it took around two hours for the bodies to be recovered from under the rubble. Visuals taken at the site earlier showed a bulldozer clearing the bricks and other materials from the collapsed dhaba.
From the initial impression of the accident, it is likely that the truck diverted away from the lane and rammed into the dhaba, said the Etawah District Magistrate. He added that the truck had a Jharkhand number plate and it has been removed from the accident site.
